In another move signaling the diversity and expansion of Saleen, Inc., the company has announced production of the high-performance Focus model for 2004, N₂O Focus. According to Steve Saleen, “We’ve been playing with the Focus for a couple of years now, trying this, tweaking that and now we believe we have a product that is ideal for Focus enthusiasts.”

“During development we played with turbocharging and supercharging,” Saleen continued, “but our real-world research out on the ‘streets’ led us to a concept we call ‘nitrous ready’ to keep the Focus at an affordable price level. And, naturally, the N₂O Focus model will incorporate the neck-turning styling, suspension tuning, race-proven aero package and performance-focused interior, that is the DNA of every Saleen automobile.”

If you read through the list of Saleen modifications to the Focus’s 2.3-liter, all-aluminum, double-overhead-cam, 4-valve-per cylinder, 4-cylinder, you’ll find a Saleen performance air filter and a Saleen performance center exhaust system on the list. At the bottom of the list are the following three words: nitrous compatible elements. Basically this is shorthand for an engine that will come “nitrous ready” with everything you need to melt the front tires except for a full nitrous bottle, the main hose to the engine and a couple of jumpers to hook up the wiring.
